A coordinated operation in Larnaca uncovered a major case of illegal employment, highlighting the ongoing challenges of unregulated labor in Cyprus.

On Wednesday morning, at around 9:30 a.m., police and labor inspectors carried out checks at a developing construction complex in the district. Their findings were significant: 19 foreign nationals, all from non-EU countries, were discovered working without the necessary permits. Among them, one individual was residing in Cyprus illegally.

Authorities have launched investigations into the 19 workers, while the construction site’s four employers now face scrutiny for violating labor laws. The operation was led by the Oroklini Police Station, with support from the Aliens and Immigration Service units across Larnaca, Nicosia, Famagusta, and Paphos, as well as the Green Line Supervision and Migration Flows Unit and the Ministry of Labour’s Inspections Service.

The inspections revealed multiple breaches of Cyprus’ labor regulations, particularly concerning undeclared work. As a result, administrative fines totaling €63,000 were issued to the employers.
