A maximum speed limit of 30 kilometers per hour is now in effect on specific streets in the historic center of Limassol, according to an official announcement issued today by the Limassol Municipality.

The new traffic regulation, which aims to enhance road safety and improve the quality of life in the city center, was implemented with the consent of the Chief of the Cyprus Police. The measure falls under the authority granted by the Limassol Municipal Regulations of 2006, which provide for the regulation of road traffic within municipal boundaries.

According to the Municipality, the 30 km/h speed limit applies to Anexartisias Street as well as a number of adjacent and nearby streets located to the west. These include: Vragadinou, Megalou Alexandrou, Thrakis, Kanari, Athanasiou Sakellariou, Andrea Themistokleous, Georgiou Gennadiou, Athinon, Themidos, Yiangou Potamiti, Ifigeneias, Nikolaou Xiouta, Ptolemaion, Renou Pougiouka, Philippou Makedonos, Archbishop Kyprianou, Saripolou, Kitiou Kyprianou, Agiou Andreou, Ellados, Spartis, Leonidou, Thermopylon, Eirinis, Marathonos, Darvinou, Simou Menandrou, Eleftherias, Ellinon, Efkaf Serdar, Kleopatras, Shakespeare, Makedonias, Enoseos, Kosta Charaki, Nikolaou Mantzarou, Nikou Georgiou, Gianni Perdiou, Afroditis, Ferzi Pasha, Bayazit, and Yildiz (between Eleftherias and Medzit streets).

The Municipality emphasized that the primary objective of the speed limit reduction is to create safer conditions for both pedestrians and drivers, particularly in areas with high foot traffic and mixed-use streets. These changes are also in line with broader efforts across European cities to reduce speed limits in urban centers.

Authorities further noted that enforcement of the new limit is already in effect, and drivers found in violation will be subject to penalties as stipulated by the Municipal Law and the Limassol Municipal Regulations of 2006.

Drivers are urged to take note of the new signs indicating the updated speed limit and to drive responsibly within the designated zones.
