A man riding his bicycle in Famagusta district was killed Tuesday after he was hit from behind by a car going the same way.

Police said 30-year-old Parvinder Singh from India was riding his bicycle Tuesday early evening around 6:30pm along the Liopetri-Sotira road when he got involved in a road incident.

A car driven by a 43-year-old local female, according to police, struck Singh’s bicycle from behind under circumstances still pending investigation.

Singh, who was said to be in Cyprus on a student visa, was injured very seriously in the crash and transported to the Emergency Room at Famagusta General Hospital where doctors on duty pronounced him dead on arrival.

It was not established whether the accident was caused by inattention on the road or other factors, as conditions were not immediately known about the incident.

But an official police report pointed to officers finding no evidence of any use of strobe lights on the bicycle. It was also stated that the woman was administered a Breathalyzer test with a negative result.
