Newsroom
If you needed an extra coffee to brave the morning air today, you aren't alone. A cold air mass is currently affecting the area, ensuring that while the week starts with sunshine, it definitely requires a coat.
Today offers a "crisp and bright" start to the week. The weather will be mainly clear, though clouds will make occasional appearances just to keep things interesting. In the mountains, those clouds might bring isolated light rain or sleet, so watch your step on the winding roads. The winds are shifting from northeast to southeast, generally light to moderate (3 to 4 Beaufort), though they might pick up a bit of attitude on windward coasts, briefly touching 5 Beaufort.
Temperature-wise, we are shivering a bit below the seasonal average. Highs will struggle to reach 11°C inland and 14°C on the coast. In the highest mountains, the thermometer is barely hovering above freezing at 1°C, with frost expected to persist locally.
Snow update: After the weekend's activity, the snow depth at Chionistra currently stands at 21 centimeters. It’s slightly less than last week, but still enough to keep the peaks looking picturesque against the blue sky.
The outlook:
The week has a "slow warmup" plan in place.
Tonight & Tuesday: The clear skies stick around, which means the nights will remain cold. Tuesday looks to be a carbon copy of today; sunny but chilly, with temperatures staying stubbornly low.
Wednesday & Thursday: The plot thickens (literally) with medium and high cloud cover rolling in. The silver lining? These clouds bring a gradual rise in temperature, finally pushing us back toward warmer, more comfortable levels.
So, dress warmly for the Monday commute, but know that milder days are on the way.
