The body of a man found in an advanced stage of mummification in Ayia Napa on September 5 has been identified as 27-year-old Aleksandar Gligorjovic from Serbia, according to police.
Gligorjovic had been reported missing from his guesthouse in Ayia Napa, where he was staying since July 27. After conducting scientific tests, authorities confirmed his identity. The Famagusta Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is handling the case, and the investigation file is expected to be forwarded to the Legal Service for further instructions.
Police had launched an immediate search effort following Gligorjovic's disappearance, contacting hospitals, campsites, and consulting a bicommunal crime group. Despite these efforts, no leads emerged, and the investigation was hampered by the fact that Gligorjovic's mobile phone was turned off.
During the search, Gligorjovic's mother traveled to Cyprus and desperately sought help from the public. She circulated a social media post featuring a photo of her son, urging people to assist in locating him. "He's still missing! Please share. A worried mother is desperately searching for her son, who was last seen in Ayia Napa four weeks ago. He did not check out of his hostel, leaving behind all his belongings except his passport," she wrote.
The circumstances surrounding Gligorjovic’s death remain under investigation as authorities work to determine the cause and any potential criminal elements involved.
