Turkey's Transport Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu announced that a maritime monitoring center in occupied Cyprus is expected to be operational by the end of next year. The center will oversee both maritime and aerial traffic, contributing to Turkey's broader strategic interests in the region.
In an interview with Anadolu Agency, Uraloglu stated that the new system will manage not only ship traffic but also aerial vehicles. He emphasized that Turkey will enhance its capabilities in both maritime and air traffic management in Cyprus.
Regarding the recent helicopter crash involving the late Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Uraloglu explained that Turkey's current system did not receive signals from the aircraft, potentially due to security measures or the absence of a compatible system on the helicopter.
The new center aims to bolster Turkey's presence in Cyprus, improving the management of maritime and air traffic. Uraloglu highlighted Turkey's critical role in supporting Cyprus, including providing alternative air transport services during local disruptions.
The project represents a significant expansion of Turkey's monitoring and control capabilities in the region, both at sea and in the air.
