A Greek solider serving in Cyprus was arrested in connection with funding a terrorist group, following a deposit he made last year to the Revolutionary Fund.

The 23-year-old serviceman, who is serving at the Malounda army camp of the Hellenic Forces in Cyprus (ELDYK), reportedly made a deposit of €50 last September to the Revolutionary Fund, a Greek terrorist group.

The deposit was made to the account of Constantinos Yiagtzoglou, a graffiti artist who is in Greek prison for sending letter bombs in the mail to former German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble and Greek ex-premier Loucas Papademos.

The ELDYK solider is believed to have made the deposit on behalf of another person, as part of a widespread effort to provide money to a core group of convicted criminals who are doing time behind bars.

Nicosia does not have more details according to reports, besides acting on an arrest warrant issued by Greek authorities.

The detainee has consented to his extradition to Greece and is expected to be transported back to his country within ten days.

Reports also said that the soldier has a clean criminal record.
