According to police, a 36-year-old local male was detained on Sunday in connection with a blast on Friday morning and an attempted bomb attack the following day, on Saturday, outside a business establishment owned by a 46-year-old man on Makedonitissis avenue in Strovolos.

Management wrote on Facebook 'Bam Boom, it's all good!!! This weekend will be explosive, we are waiting for you'

On Friday, at 6:35am, police got a call regarding a blast at a night club in Strovolos, which caused damages on the entrance door and the façade of the building.

Investigators who rushed to the scene determined that the blast was caused by a low explosive.

On Saturday, around 9:30am, a hand grenade was also thrown outside the same establishment but it failed to explode. Officers form the bomb squad deactivated the explosive device while cops collected material evidence at the scene.

The business reportedly went under the management of the 46-year-old last week. CID Nicosia is investigating the two attacks.

A lighthearted response followed the attacks, with management writing on Facebook "Bam Boom, it's all good!!! This Friday-Saturday will be EXPLOSIVE at Vareladika. We are waiting for you."
