A yellow warning for severe thunderstorms has been issued by The Weather Service, effective from 12:00 BST and lasting until 18:00 this afternoon. Heavy rainfall has been reported across the island, particularly in Nicosia, where roads have been transformed into rivers.
The current weather conditions are influenced by weak low pressure and an unstable air mass, which are expected to dissipate tonight. This afternoon, expect intermittent clouds with local rains and isolated thunderstorms, especially in the Highlands, interior, and southeastern regions. Hail may accompany some storms, with winds from the southwest to northwest at 3 to 4 Beaufort, leading to slightly turbulent sea conditions.
Temperatures will drop to around 18 degrees Celsius in the interior, 20 degrees along the coast, and about 11 degrees in higher mountainous areas.
Tomorrow, skies will be mostly clear initially, but increased cloudiness in the afternoon may bring isolated rain, primarily in mountainous areas. Winds will shift from northeast to southeast, initially weak at 3 Beaufort, before becoming southwest to northwest and moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort. Sea conditions are expected to be slightly rough, with temperatures rising to approximately 31 degrees in the interior, 28 degrees on the coast, and 22 degrees in the mountains.
For Wednesday through Friday, the forecast indicates mostly clear skies, with a gradual increase in temperatures expected to surpass average seasonal values.
