O.J. Simpson, the former football star and actor famously acquitted of murder charges in a highly publicized trial, has passed away at the age of 76 after battling cancer, confirmed by his family on Thursday. Despite his acquittal in the deaths of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman, Simpson was later found liable in a civil suit.
Born in San Francisco, Simpson rose to fame as a football player, winning the Heisman Trophy at USC and setting records in the NFL. Transitioning to acting, he appeared in various films and TV shows, including the "Naked Gun" series. However, his life took a dramatic turn when he was charged with the murders of his ex-wife and her friend in 1994.
The subsequent trial, marked by media frenzy, ended in acquittal. Yet, in a civil suit, Simpson was found responsible for wrongful death and ordered to pay substantial damages. He later served time in prison for unrelated charges, released in 2017.
