Police confiscated a drone in west Nicosia on Tuesday, saying they found drugs attached to the flying object.
According to an official report, a concerned citizen spotted a drone in the Agios Dhometios borough in Nicosia and notified law enforcement authorities.
According to regulations, the operator of a drone must register with Civil Aviation authorities except if the flying object is a mini drone weighing less than 250 grams
The individual reportedly saw the drone flying in the area Tuesday afternoon around 5pm and notified police.
An official report said the device started descending and landed very close by, with the citizen calling the police after spotting a suspicious package attached to the drone.
Members of the bomb and drug squads inspected the package and determined it contained about 60 grams of dry cannabis.
According to the latest regulations in the Republic of Cyprus, the operator of a drone must register with Civil Aviation authorities except if the flying object is a mini drone weighing less than 250 grams, in which case it can fall under the toy category according to EU regulations.
The drone and the attached drugs were confiscated as police investigate the case.
