Police will step up traffic enforcement across the island from Monday, February 9 through Sunday, February 15, as part of a coordinated European road safety initiative led by the European Traffic Police Network (ROADPOL).
The campaign will focus specifically on commercial vehicles, with police carrying out targeted checks on trucks and buses to ensure drivers and operators are complying with safety regulations.
According to an official police statement, the operation is designed not only to increase enforcement but also to raise awareness about the risks of ignoring transport laws, especially in areas that can lead to serious road accidents.
What police will be checking
Authorities will pay particular attention to:
- Driver and vehicle documentation
- Proper use and functioning of speed limiters
- Tachograph compliance
- Whether professional drivers are respecting legal driving and working-hour limits
- The overall mechanical and technical condition of heavy vehicles
Focus on high-risk violations
Police will also prioritize violations that are widely linked to deadly crashes, including speeding, which remains one of the leading causes of severe road collisions.
The Police are urging professional drivers and transport companies to follow traffic rules and meet all legal requirements throughout the inspection period.
