Police warn of landslide danger

Thick fog disappears but police warn motorists of quick changing road conditions

Newsroom

Police warned motorists on Thursday to be extra cautious when driving in the mountains, citing areas with rockfall and mudslides.

According to a police statement, there were reports of rockfall and landslides along the Lazania – Machairas road towards the Konia campsite.

Motorists are urged to be extra careful, maintain low speeds, drive defensively, and keep safe distances from other vehicles.

Earlier, police described driving conditions as “fast-changing” due to winter weather conditions.

An overnight and early morning thick fog was expected to disappear later in the day, while several mountain roads were closed to vehicles that are not equipped with anti-skid chains or a four-wheel drive system.
