The Turkish Cypriot Civil Servants' union (KTAMS) has set the poverty line for a family of four at 27,402 Turkish liras (approximately €953), according to a recent study.
The study, as reported by Kipris Postasi through the Press and Information Office, breaks down the daily cost of a healthy diet per person. It found that an adult woman requires 235.85 TL (around €8.20) per day, or about 7,075.50 TL (€246) per month. An adult man needs 245.96 TL (€8.55) per day, totaling 7,378.80 TL (€257) monthly.
For a teenager aged 15-19, the daily amount needed is 258.91 TL (€9.00), adding up to 7,767.30 TL (€270) per month. Meanwhile, for a child aged 4-6, the cost is 172.69 TL (€6.00) per day or 5,180.70 TL (€180) per month.
KTAMS also highlighted rising inflation in the occupied territories, which reached 3.28% in August 2024 compared to the previous month, and 19.19% over the last quarter, based on data from the Pseudo-State Statistical Institute.
