A powerful gathering in Limassol echoes the call for truth and accountability

More than a thousand people gathered late Sunday afternoon at Grigoris Afxentiou Square in Limassol to show support for the family of Thanasis Nikolaou. This came after the recent decision by the Legal Service stating that no evidence leading to criminal charges had emerged in connection with the death of the National Guard.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Adriana Nicolaou, Thanasis' mother, emphasized the significance of the moment and the shared cause for truth and justice in honoring Thanasis. She expressed the family's determination to fight until the end for vindication, clarifying that vindication meant exposing and punishing those responsible for the brutal murder of Thanasis and those involved in covering it up.

Adriana Nicolaou condemned all those accountable for the inhumane suffering caused by covering up the heinous crime and demanded the apprehension of the killers who had concealed the truth for 18 years.

Addressing the audience, Adriana Nicolaou stated that their collective voice had become the voice of justice and dignity, standing against the injustice and obscenity of the actions taken. She emphasized that Thanasis' vindication would also be justice for Cyprus, a justice that had been unjustly deprived for a long time.

"For 18 years, I have relentlessly fought against bureaucracy and corruption to prove to unbelievers that my child did not fall from the bridge but was murdered in the army. He was unfortunate enough to stumble upon drug trafficking and was silenced when he bravely reported it to the officers, commander, and chief of staff," she added.

Following the protest in Limassol, another demonstration is scheduled to take place outside the Legal Service in Nicosia on Wednesday, July 12. This date holds significance as it marks the day when Thanasis Nikolaou joined the National Guard.
