Three new coronavirus cases emerged in the Republic of Cyprus from the pool of 1,247 samples checked for the virus on Friday, a Health Ministry announcement said.
The new cases involve a Polish permanent resident of Cyprus who developed symptoms and got checked for the virus, a Serbian player of the local football team Apoel who flew to the island from Serbia on July 7, and a contact of a case announced on July 7.
According to the announcement, the Apoel player tested positive to a routine coronavirus check on all players conducted by the football club. The specific player had previously tested positive for the virus in June while in Serbia. After spending two weeks in quarantine there, the player was submitted to three coronavirus tests which all came back negative.
