Drivers across Cyprus should prepare for delays and temporary road closures over the next two days, as the island hosts an informal meeting of EU leaders.
Police say increased security measures will be in place on April 23 and 24 as part of Cyprus’ presidency of the Council of the European Union, affecting traffic in parts of Nicosia, Larnaca and Famagusta districts.
In simple terms, expect stop-and-go traffic and short road closures, especially near key venues and along major highways.
Authorities said roads will be briefly closed at intervals on both city streets and main motorways, including the Nicosia–Larnaca and Larnaca–Ayia Napa routes, to allow for the movement of official delegations.
Some areas will see more extended disruptions.
In Ayia Napa, roads around the marina, including parts of Agia Thekla Avenue, will be closed on Thursday between 4 p.m. and 11 p.m.
In Nicosia, closures will focus around the conference center area on Friday, with Aglantzia Avenue shut from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., specifically between the Aluminium Tower traffic lights and the Academia roundabout.
Police are urging the public to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and follow instructions on the ground.
