A 42-year-old Syrian man has admitted to gunning down Dimitris Andronikos, better known as "Dimitroui," in a brazen midday ambush on April 23. The attack occurred along the Paleochori-Anthoupolis road in what authorities describe as a calculated hit on the notorious Cypriot criminal.
The Syrian, identified as the motorcycle driver during the ambush, confessed to firing the fatal shots during today's hearing at the Nicosia Court of Cassation. The case, which has captivated public attention, is set to continue with sentencing scheduled for October 15.
Dimitroui, a well-known figure in Cyprus' underworld, was reportedly targeted in a dispute with criminal rivals, though officials have not disclosed further details.
The violent attack and subsequent trial have highlighted the growing concerns about organized crime in the region.
