As Holy Week begins, Cyprus is experiencing a mix of spring sunshine and patchy clouds, with weak low pressure currently affecting the island. Starting Tuesday, high pressure is expected to settle in, setting the tone for more stable weather as we move closer to Easter Sunday.
Today, Holy Monday, most parts of the island will see mainly clear skies, though occasional cloud cover may bring isolated showers, mostly in the mountains and possibly in some southeastern areas. On the highest Troodos peaks, there's a slight chance of light snow or sleet.
Winds will mainly blow from the southwest to northwest, starting off light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, gradually picking up to moderate to strong levels at 4 to 5 Beaufort. By this afternoon, winds along the southwestern coast may reach very strong levels of 5 to 6 Beaufort. The sea will generally be slightly to moderately rough.
Temperatures today will reach around 20°C inland and along the southern and eastern coasts, about 18°C in the west and north, and 9°C in the higher mountains.
Tonight will be mostly clear. Winds will shift gradually from northwest to northeast, staying light to moderate. The sea will become slightly rough. Overnight temperatures will drop to around 8°C inland, 10°C on the coasts, and 3°C in the highest mountain areas, where frost is likely to form locally.
Looking ahead, from Holy Tuesday through Holy Thursday, the weather will remain mostly clear, with temperatures gradually rising to above seasonal averages, offering ideal conditions for Easter preparations.
As of 5 a.m., Troodos Square recorded 2 cm of snow, and Mount Olympus (Chionistra) had 4 cm.
