Police in Paphos have arrested a 58-year-old man in connection with a brutal stabbing that left a young man clinging to life, adding yet another violent incident to a growing list of cases that has many residents wondering what’s happening to the island’s once-quiet streets.
Authorities say the attack unfolded late Wednesday afternoon outside a kiosk in Konia, around 6:15 p.m. Investigators believe the stabbing stemmed from personal differences between the two men.
The victim, a 26-year-old Greek Cypriot, was rushed to Paphos General Hospital before being transferred to a private hospital in Limassol due to the severity of his injuries. Doctors say he remains in critical condition with multiple stab wounds across his body.
The suspect fled the scene immediately after the attack but was tracked down and arrested Thursday. Police say he is now in custody as interrogations continue.
The case comes amid what feels like an unusual spike in violent crimes across Cyprus, a worrying trend in a country that until recently rarely saw this level of bloodshed.
Authorities are continuing their investigation.
