It is St. George’s Day, but more importantly for the younger demographic, it’s the Archbishop’s Nameday. While the rest of us are tethered to our desks, the kids are out enjoying a mid-week reprieve. Honestly, watching them head to the park makes you want to go back to primary school just for the administrative holidays, doesn't it? If you see a George, Georgia, Giorgos, or Yiorkis today, make sure to wish them Hronia Polla, and don't be shy about asking where the kerastika (treats) are!
A weak low-pressure system is hanging around, but it’s mostly just providing a few decorative clouds. The weather will be mostly clear, making it a perfect day for those school-free adventures.
Expect a southwesterly wind at a light to moderate 3 to 4 Beaufort. If you’re celebrating on the southern coast, it might get a bit more spirited with gusts up to 5 Beaufort. The sea is keeping it relatively civil at slightly rough.
The temperature will be a comfortable 25°C inland; prime terrace weather. The west and north coasts are a bit fresher at 21°C, the rest of the coastline sits at 23°C, and the mountain villages are enjoying a crisp 18°C.
Tonight remains clear, though some low clouds and a bit of mist might creep in locally. Winds will drop to a whisper (3 Beaufort), and the sea will settle into a calm slumber.
The three-day outlook: A gradual warm-up
Friday & Saturday: We’re looking at partly cloudy intervals. The mountains might see a stray shower or two, so if you’re planning a celebratory Nameday hike, keep an eye on the peaks. Starting Saturday, that "thin dust" we’ve been hearing about finally makes its entrance.
Sunday’s finale: Clouds will increase, and we might even hear a thunderstorm rolling through to wrap up the week.
