British police arrested two men Wednesday after environmental activists sprayed orange paint on the U.S. embassy in south London to protest Donald Trump’s recent presidential victory.
Activists with Just Stop Oil were seen in a video posted by the group on X spraying the embassy’s compound wall. “Trump's win puts the lives of ordinary people at risk, everywhere,” the group said in a statement.
London's Metropolitan Police reported that two men, aged 25 and 72, were taken into custody on suspicion of criminal damage. “This activity is vandalism purporting as protest, and we will continue to have a zero-tolerance approach to actions such as this,” Deputy Assistant Commissioner Andy Valentine said.
Just Stop Oil has made headlines across Britain with protests that disrupt public events, including sports games and theatre performances, and involve high-profile actions like throwing soup at Van Gogh paintings.
The U.S. embassy, which moved to its 12-story site on the south bank of the River Thames in 2018, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
