Royal couple hand delivers gifts and letters to personnel at RAF Akrotiri

Newsroom

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived in Cyprus on Wednesday, at RAF Akrotiri for a meet-and-greet with British troops away from home and families stationed on the island.

The plane carrying the royal couple touched down on the British Base runway shortly after 2pm, with local and foreign media covering the visit aimed to show support to military and their families.

The visit is the second and final leg of a special Christmas trip, where William and Kate take it upon themselves to hand-deliver presents and letters from children in the UK to their parents who are serving away from home.

“We are really looking forward to flying to @RAFAkrotiri in Cyprus tomorrow and meeting some of the mums and dads of the little ones we have met today,” the Duchess of Cambridge wrote on Twitter.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the visit was scheduled to last about three hours, where the royal couple will greet Serving Personnel, families living on the base, as well as members of the local community.
