A case of animal cruelty in Limassol

Two dogs allegedly shot by owner

Newsroom

Limassol police are investigating a case of animal cruelty.

An arrest warrant has been issued for an 18 year old national guardsman who allegedly shot two his dogs.

According to reports, the 61-year old neighbour of the man in question heard 2 gunshots at around 6:30pm. He went out into his yard and claimed he saw his young neighbour shooting at something on the ground, which wasn’t visible at the time.

A few minutes later, he saw what looked to be one of his neighbor’s dogs, a Jack Russell, injured from a gunshot wound. He immediately tried to locate the second dog, also a Jack Russell, and managed to find him in an adjacent field.

The 61-year old man took the two dogs back to his home to treat them, but unfortunately, one succumbed to its injuries. He immediately reported the incident to the police at around 8:30pm.

A necropsy will be performed on the dog today at the Limassol vet clinic to confirm the cause of death.
