EuroAirport, located on the French-Swiss border in Alsace, was evacuated earlier today for security reasons, hours after sabotage disrupted the French rail network ahead of the Olympic Games' opening ceremony.
Authorities in the Upper Rhine department confirmed the evacuation was due to a bomb warning, stating that "the usual procedure will be followed."
The airport was closed for about two hours while investigations were completed, reopening to the public just before 1 p.m. local time.
Earlier, EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse announced on its website that "for security reasons, the terminal had to be evacuated and is currently closed."
Late last year, several French airports, including EuroAirport, were evacuated due to a series of false bomb threats.
EuroAirport, located on the French side of the border near Basel, handled eight million passengers in 2023.
