A teenager in the north died Friday morning after allegedly shooting and killing his parents before turning the gun on himself, with reports saying his older brother managed to escape from certain death.

According to Turkish Cypriot media, a 14-year-old boy is believed to have shot and killed his parents at the residence in Lefkoniko/Geçitkale village in the north, before shooting himself in the early hours of Friday morning.

Reports said an 18-year-old male ran out of the house after 3am, knocking frantically on the door of another house and saying he had been shot at by his younger brother.

'When I went into the house, I found the boy sitting' a witness said, adding he began to understand what had taken place after realizing the parents were dead but the boy was still alive

Additional reports said the father of the household, a retired officer, and his wife, were both found dead in their bed, presumably shot while sleeping, while the 14-year-old was sitting on his bed, leaning and covered in blood.

“When I went into the house, I found the boy sitting. I immediately dialed 112 at 3:16am as well as the police about a minute later,” a witness said, who later added he began to understand what had taken place after seeing the parents dead and the boy still alive.

The 14-year-old boy was said to have succumbed to gunshot wounds while being rushed to the Emergency Room.

Local media described the incident as a domestic dispute, while additional reports said police officers had collected evidence from the residence, including a handgun that was registered to the father.
