Conservative MP Sir David Amess, who was stabbed multiple times by a man outside a Methodist church in the Leigh on Sea area of Essex, is dead.
According to the local police, the perpetrator was arrested and they are not looking for an accomplice.
Skynews reported that the 69-year-old MP was stabbed multiple times with a knife from an unknown assailant. The reason for the stabbing is still unknown and the investigation is continuing.
Sir Amess was at the scene meeting with voters in his constituency.
Police rushed to the scene and blocked the area. The MP's political office, according to Reuters, had no further information about the incident.
He was in favor of the United Kingdom leaving the European Union.
A post on the MP's twitter account on Tuesday informed the public that he would be visiting the area today.
