Cyprus police have dealt a double blow to drug trafficking this week, arresting five suspects in Larnaca and Limassol and seizing significant quantities of crystal meth and cannabis in two coordinated operations.

Larnaca: Crystal meth trafficking ring uncovered

The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) arrested a 37-year-old man in Larnaca on Thursday in connection with a trafficking case involving crystal meth. The arrest followed an international investigation after Greek authorities intercepted a postal package containing 360 grams of methamphetamine.

Earlier this week, two men aged 30 and 31 had already been detained in relation to the case after a National Crime Agency raid on their residence. Officers discovered a syringe with traces of meth, a precision scale with white residue, a grinder containing cannabis, a small amount of cannabis plant material, and a bottle with an unidentified liquid.

The 30- and 31-year-olds remain in eight-day judicial detention, while the 37-year-old is in custody for questioning. All three are being investigated for participation in a drug trafficking and importation ring operating in Cyprus. The case is being handled by the Larnaca District Drug Unit (YKAN).

Limassol: Eight kilos of cannabis seized

Meanwhile, in Limassol, two men aged 35 and 26 were arrested on Thursday after officers found nearly eight kilograms of cannabis in a coordinated operation by the National Anti-Narcotics Unit (YKAN) and the National Anti-Corruption Commission.

Police observed the 35-year-old parking outside the younger man’s home, where he received a nylon bag containing 3.4 kilograms of cannabis. Officers also found a grinder, two mobile phones, and a hand-rolled joint in his car. He was arrested immediately.

Shortly after, the 26-year-old was stopped while carrying two more nylon bags. Inside, officers discovered 4.5 kilograms of cannabis, a mobile phone, and two boxes of disposable gloves.

Searches of their homes uncovered 7 grams of cannabis at the 35-year-old’s residence and two more mobile phones at the 26-year-old’s. Police investigations are ongoing.
