The Board of the Cyprus Medical Association, an organization representing the interests of medical doctors, has called on its members not to participate in the General Healthcare System, saying that there are ''serious risks posed by the proposed plan to the quality of healthcare and patient safety’’.
The GHS is scheduled to roll out in June amid disagreements that question the philosophy and purpose of the plan.
In a press statement the Association said that "in spite of the convergences reached, unfortunately, differences remain, while the overall response to our key demands was negative."
President Anastasiades said that he does not believe that doctors will ''undermine their scientific duty'', reiterating that the General Healthcare System will be implemented based on the unanimous decision of Parliament.
