Cyprus records 185 cases, one death

185 new cases were detected from among 2,891 tests, whilCyprus recorded another death involving an 86-year-old coronavirus patient

The health ministry announced on Thursday that 185 new cases were detected from among 2,891 tests, while the island recorded another death involving an 86-year-old coronavirus patient whose death was fully attributed to the virus.

The 86-year-old’s death on Thursday raised total coronavirus fatalities to 34, involving 21 men and 13 women of an average age 75.

Thursday’s 185 new cases raised total known cases in the Republic of Cyprus to 6,646.

54 were contacts, 107 were people who took the initiative to get tested, 16 were tested at general hospitals, while one emerged among people tested as part of special health groups.

Another five were detected in the framework of the program targeting school staff and students. One more involved a resident of a migrant camp, while another case was detected through the program being undertaken by the Cyprus Football Association.

The Famagusta general hospital is currently treating 51 coronavirus cases, of which six are in the ICU. Seven more are receiving treatment at the Nicosia general hospital ICU, of which just two are not intubated. 10 more are receiving treatment at the hospital’s coronavirus ward.
