In 2022, the proportion of Cyprus's population facing the risk of poverty or social exclusion showed a decline, falling to 16.7%, down from 17.3% in 2021. This reduction indicates a decrease of about 4,000 individuals at risk of poverty or social exclusion.

On the occasion of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, observed globally on October 17, the Statistical Service of Cyprus unveiled an informative infographic. Specifically, within Cyprus, the percentage of individuals at risk of poverty or social exclusion—comprising those in households with income below the poverty threshold, facing severe material and social deprivation, or residing in households with very low work activity—stood at 16.7% in 2022, as opposed to 17.3% in the preceding year.

This decrease equates to approximately 4,000 fewer people at risk of poverty or social exclusion in 2022, amounting to 150,000 individuals, compared to 154,000 in 2021.
