Cyprus triumphs with 3 awards at International Short Film Festival

Cyprus had a successful run at the 46th International Short Film Festival in Drama, held from September 4 to 10. The festival concluded on Sunday, September 10, with Cyprus winning three awards.

These awards were earned by Cypriot filmmakers for their work in two films: Savvas Stavrou's "Buffer Zone" and Maria Toumazou's "The Tornado Outside." Savvas Stavrou's film received two awards in the "National Competition Program" category: the Drama Queer Award and the Male Performance Award, which was presented to Andreas Markou for his outstanding performance. Maria Toumazou was honored with the Special Prize of the Committee in the "International Animation Program Competition" category.

The Drama Queer Award, presented to Savvas Stavrou's "Buffer Zone," included a €2000 cash prize courtesy of ONASIS CULTURE. The judging committee for this year's National Competition Program included Lefteris Haritos (President), a director; Alexia Roiter, the artistic director of the Cyprus Short Film Festival; Meno Deliotzaki, a director; Alexandra Matthaiou, a director/writer; and Asimina President, a director/writer.

The International Animation Competition Awards jury featured Jute Vile, the director of AG Kurzfilm and a producer; Alekos Papadatos, an animator/director; and Anthi Samartzidou, a cartoonist.

The film "Ardokotrypa" by Chryssianas Papadakis and Stergios Dinopoulos received the Golden Dionysus award, accompanied by three prizes: Finos Film offers a €4,000 prize, ERT offers €3,000, and the Greek Film Center offers €2,500.
