Elk on the loose causes metro meltdown in Stockholm

Swedes experienced an unusual commute in Stockholm today as wildlife officers tried to catch the Elk

Source: The Local

Traffic resumed on Stockholm's red metro line on Wednesday afternoon after an elk who got loose on the tracks was shot dead.

Trains were halted between Alby and Sätra for several hours due to an elk who strayed into a metro tunnel between the stations.

The Vårberg and Skärholmen metro stations were evacuated and replacement buses were called in.

Wildlife officers were called out at around 11 a.m. to try to catch the elk. They slashed the fence designed to keep wild animals out in an effort to lure it out.

But after failing to get hold of the animal, they shot it at around 3 p.m.

Traffic resumed shortly thereafter but knock-on delays were to be expected.
