Kathimerini Greece Newsroom

Police have arrested a 45-year-old resident of Nicosia in connection with an ongoing money laundering investigation involving false representations.

The case was brought to the attention of the Famagusta Criminal Investigation Department (CID) by a 44-year-old restaurateur. According to the complainant, he met the suspect in 2023. The suspect, introduced to him as a lawyer, allegedly extorted more than €10,000 from the restaurateur. The funds were purportedly for registering employees to work at the restaurateur's establishment in the Famagusta district, but the suspect failed to deliver on this promise.

A warrant for the suspect's arrest was issued, leading to his apprehension today. He is currently detained to aid in the investigation.

The Famagusta CID continues to investigate the matter.
