A fire broke out at a supermarket after a vehicle slammed into the entrance of the building, with the driver getting out safely seeking help.

A 19-year-old driver was driving her car around 3:30am Friday morning on the Aridiou-Anthoupoli road, when suddenly she reportedly appeared to have lost control of her vehicle and slammed into the entrance of a minimarket.

The crash quickly started a fire which spread inside the building, while the driver managed to escape moments earlier.

Local reports said the young woman managed to exit the vehicle unharmed and went to a nearby residence to seek help.

Fire fighters rushed to the scene and managed to put the fire out, while also removing from the area a number of gas cylinders while also having to freeze another 500kg gas cylinder.

Damages to the car and the store were described as extensive.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
