A terrorist attack on the Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) offices in Kahramankazan, near Ankara, resulted in five deaths and 22 injuries. Three of the wounded are in critical condition. The attack involved two perpetrators, a man and a woman, who were later confirmed dead. Among the victims was a taxi driver, whom the attackers killed to steal his vehicle and reach the TAI headquarters.
The assault began with an explosion, followed by gunfire, as reported by CNN Turk. Turkish officials quickly attributed the attack to the Kurdish PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party). Defense Minister Yasar Güler stated that the PKK would face severe repercussions, while Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya mentioned that identification of the attackers and further details were still being confirmed.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who was in Kazan, Russia, for a BRICS summit, condemned the attack. He described it as a “vile assault” targeting the country's defense sector, national peace, and efforts toward a fully independent Turkey. Erdogan also vowed to defeat any malicious organizations or groups threatening Turkey's stability.
International reactions included NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, who reached out to Erdogan to express solidarity with Turkey, and Russian President Vladimir Putin, who extended his condolences.
Shocking CCTV footage has surfaced, showing a gunman firing inside the TAI building during the attack, adding to the distress and gravity of the incident.
