Five deaths and 182 new cases today

Announcement from the Ministry of Health

The Ministry of Health announced today, September 8, 2021:

- Five people died of COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 523.

- 131 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 34 are in serious condition. 80.92% of patients do not have a history of vaccination.

- 10 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be treated intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in Intensive Care Units.

- A total of 48,588 disease detection tests have been performed with the molecular method (PCR) and the method of antigen rapid test (antigen rapid test).

- 182 (positivity rate: 0.37%) new cases of COVID-19 disease were detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test (antigen rapid test), bringing the total number of cases to 117,379.

The current results are detailed below.

A. Deaths from COVID-19 disease:

The five people who died with the ultimate cause of death attributed to COVID-19 are:

- A woman, 81 years old, who ended up on September 7 at the General Hospital of Nicosia.

- A 75-year-old man, who ended up on September 7 in the Intensive Care Unit of the Limassol General Hospital.

- A woman, aged 95, who ended up today at the Limassol General Hospital.

- A 78-year-old woman who ended up today at Paphos General Hospital.

- A 72-year-old woman who ended up today at the General Hospital of Famagusta.

Thus, the total number of final causes of COVID-19 disease is 523, of which:

337 men (64%), and

- 186 women (36%).

The average age of those who die from the disease is 76.4 years.

B. Patients:

In total, 131 patients with COVID-19 are treated in OKYPY hospitals, of which 34 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 34 patients in serious condition, 16 are intubated, three are admitted to an intravenous intensive care unit and 15 to an intensive care unit.

C. Positive cases COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 48,588 diagnoses made today, 5,454 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 43,134 by the antigen rapid test method, 182 cases of COVID-19 were identified, which resulted as follows:

  • 25 cases from 206 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 5 cases of 2,618 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 31 cases from 2,139 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 7 cases from 296 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 1 case of 195 samples taken under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 79 cases from 22,373 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 34 cases from 20,761 samples that were examined by the method of antigen rapid test through the program of the Ministry of Health.
