German Special Forces deployed to Cyprus amid Middle East crisis

KSK team on standby for evacuation of German citizens and diplomatic personnel

Newsroom

According to the German news network RND, Germany has sent a special forces team (KSK) to Cyprus, ready for action in the event of a crisis in the Middle East.

The primary mission of this special forces team is to evacuate German citizens and diplomatic personnel should the situation in the Middle East escalate to the point of interrupting commercial air flights. Additionally, the team boasts expertise in hostage rescue operations, further highlighting their versatile capabilities.

With approximately a hundred thousand Israelis holding German passports living in Israel and reports of eight German hostages held by Hamas, the need for this deployment is apparent. However, any actions taken by the KSK team will require prior approval by a committee of the German Parliament, highlighting the importance of parliamentary oversight in such critical missions.
