Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign has raised nearly $50 million in grassroots donations since President Joe Biden suspended his re-election bid and endorsed her, Fox News Digital reports.
The Harris campaign told Fox News Digital that the $49.6 million raised came from grassroots donations across all entities, including ActBlue.
Harris announced her presidential campaign Sunday afternoon, shortly after Biden announced he would drop out of the 2024 race amid pressure from within the Democratic Party. The president’s decision followed calls from Democrat lawmakers urging him to step aside, believing he could not win the general election against former President Donald Trump, the 2024 GOP nominee.
Biden quickly offered his "full support and endorsement" for Harris to take over as the party's presidential nominee, stating it was in the best interests of the party and the country for him to step down and focus on fulfilling his duties for the remainder of his term.
In a social media post, Biden backed Harris, calling her his best decision as a running mate and urging Democrats to unite to defeat Trump. Harris, in response, expressed her honor to receive Biden’s endorsement and her determination to win the nomination and defeat Trump.
Harris has already gained endorsements from several governors and over 178 Democratic lawmakers. However, former President Obama has not yet endorsed her, advocating for a process to select an outstanding nominee.
The Biden campaign reported $91 million cash-on-hand, with allied Democratic Party committees bringing the total to $240 million. Harris has access to the $91 million collected for the Biden-Harris ticket, in addition to the recent $50 million in grassroots fundraising.
