Health Ministry announces two deaths, 109 new cases

On Wednesday, the Health Minister will be announcing the decisions taken by the Cabinet regarding a relaxation of lockdown measures in place

The Health Ministry on Tuesday announced two coronavirus fatalities and 109 new cases, raising the death toll to 190 and total cases detected so far to 30,252.

The fatalities a 69-year-old man and a 93-year-old woman, both of whom suffered from underlying health conditions.

The new cases emerged after 10,992 tests were conducted. Of the 109 new cases, 72 involved people who tested positive to a rapid test.

The remaining 22 were contacts, one was an airport arrival, eight were people who took the initiative to get tested, five were people who got tested at general hospitals, while one was tested either upon the referral of their GP or as part of special health groups.

Cyprus hospitals are currently treating 160 coronavirus patients, 53 of which are in critical condition.

53 patients are in the Famagusta general hospital, five of which are in the ICU. The Nicosia general hospital is also treating 63 patients, 35 of which are in the ICU. 43 more coronavirus patients are at the Limassol general hospital where six are in the ICU, while one more is at the Makario hospital in Nicosia.

At 12:30pm on Wednesday, the Health Minister will be announcing the decisions taken by the Cabinet regarding a relaxation of measures in place.
