A massive fire has broken out at the port of Lebanon’s capital, Beirut, just over a month after a fatal blast devastated the port facilities and the capital.
A dense column of black smoke rose into the sky on Thursday, with Kathimerini Greece reporting that Lebanese military sources have attributed the fire to flaming tires and fuel.
The cause of the fire has yet to be made clear.
Beirut was devastated on August 4 when 2,750 tonnes of confiscated ammonium nitrate that were stored in a port warehouse for almost seven years exploded, killing 191 people and wounding around 6,000.
