Mountain hiker falls to his death in the north

Two British outdoorsmen fall while mountaineering in Kyrenia, one dead at the scene, one injured

A man fell to his death on Monday while mountain hiking in Kyrenia, while a fellow hiker was said to be injured during the incident still under investigation.

According to Turkish Cypriot media, 41-year-old British national Steven Hare was hiking with fellow hiker James Swanson along the northern side of Pentadaktylos/Besparmak mountain range in Kyrenia when they got involved in a fatal accident.

The incident took place sometime after 12 noon when the two men reportedly lost their balance and fell from a height of 100 feet, with Hare dying at the scene while Swanson was said to have been injured.

Turkish Cypriot police, along with fire fighters and civil defense staff, rushed to the scene where an investigation into the incident was launched.

No details were immediately known regarding the incident.
