"Beautiful and Strange Homeland" was the title of the concert presented by the Choir of the Pan-Cyprian Association of America at the "Terrace on the Park" event center.
The concert featured a selection of songs performed by soloists and the Choir under the direction of Fytos Stratis. It was dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion and occupation of Cyprus and to the Cypriots' struggle for the island's liberation and reunification.
Sponsors of the event included the International Coordinating Committee "Justice for Cyprus" (PSEKA), AHEPA, the Federation of Cypriot Organizations of America, and the Cyprus-U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
The event aimed to highlight the cultural, political, and historical dimensions of Cyprus and efforts to preserve the unity of the Greek and Cypriot diaspora.
"The concert is dedicated to the 50 years since Cyprus' tragedy, emphasizing the Turkish invasion and occupation, as well as the importance of never forgetting these events. Cyprus' struggles are linked to broader issues such as the Aegean and human rights," stated PSEKA President Philip Christopher.
The PSEKA president called for continued unity and collective action to promote the values and ideals of Cyprus. "We call for unity and cooperation among organizations to continue the fight for freedom and justice," he added.
Mr. Christopher also highlighted the crucial role of the diaspora in strengthening ties between Greece, Cyprus, and the United States, mentioning initiatives such as the EASTMED pipeline and recent discussions about Cyprus joining NATO.
