The government is moving to build a new ward at the Nicosia General Hospital that will exclusively treat coronavirus cases, with the ward expected to be ready by early May.
The new coronavirus ward will take the form of an Intensive Care Unit, and will host 20 beds.
At the moment, the construction of the ward’s foundation is underway, on top of which will be placed a preconstructed structure that is being built abroad.
In a press conference in March, Health Minister Constantinos Ioannou said that the island's public hospitals could offer 126 beds in Intensive Care Units to treat those infected by coronavirus – 112 beds in Nicosia General Hospital, eight in Limassol General, and six in Famagusta General.
