Since December 2024, a total of 1,127 Syrian children and teenagers, aged 4 to 18, have left Cyprus as part of voluntary repatriation programs run by the Deputy Ministry of Immigration and International Protection, according to CNA.
The program is part of ongoing efforts to manage migration and ensure orderly returns for those who wish to go back to their home country. Sources say that as of August 28, 2025, roughly 4,100 Syrians are currently registered on lists for voluntary departure, including both adults and minors.
Officials noted that the Deputy Ministry continues to work closely with the Ministry of Justice and Public Order and the Aliens and Immigration Service of the Cyprus Police, describing the cooperation as “successful” in ensuring smooth processing and safe departures.
Overall, from January through the end of August 2025, approximately 9,000 third-country nationals have left Cyprus under similar programs, highlighting a broader push by authorities to regulate migration flows and support voluntary repatriation initiatives.
The program emphasizes choice, with departures carried out under supervision and in coordination with relevant authorities, aiming to protect the welfare of minors and vulnerable groups during the process.
