A local man in Paphos was arrested on Monday following an incident where he allegedly fired a warning shot at a man who is dating the shooter’s daughter.
According to police, the incident took place on Monday early evening around 7:10pm in Peyia, where a 57-year-old father went outside the couple’s residence and verbally confronted his daughter’s boyfriend, aged 39.
Local media said the dad, who had strong objections over his daughter’s affair with the man, became agitated and pulled out a gun during the confrontation. The 39-year-old, who was standing on the balcony, managed to take cover at the time.
A police statement on Tuesday morning said the suspect grabbed his hunting rifle and fired a shot at the man’s residence, causing damages to a sliding door on the balcony as well as parts of the inner and outer wall of the residence.
The alleged shooter then fled the scene while his daughter’s boyfriend called the police, who later apprehended the suspect and placed him under arrest on attempted murder charges.
Police officers who went to the suspect’s home with a search warrant found three hunting guns, one air gun, and a number of hunting rifle cartridges.
No injuries were reported.
