The British government has announced that from 24 October fully vaccinated travelers to England from non-red list countries will be able to take the rapid lateral flow test as a coronavirus test on the second day of arrival instead of the more expensive PCR test.
The travel industry has continuously demanded that reduction of testing costs for international travelers in order to increase arrivals into the UK. The change will come just in time for half term in the UK, where British schools are traditionally closed and some families use the time to travel.
Travelers arriving in England must still pre-order the rapid test from an approved private provider. The list of providers will be published on the government website. After taking the test on the second day of arrival, they must send a photo of the result and the test code back to the company for registration.
There will also be the option of testing at special centers at UK airports.
Unvaccinated travelers will continue to need two PCR tests upon arrival in the UK, as well as stay in home isolation for ten days, a requirement that does not apply to the fully vaccinated and minors.
Moreover, the pre-departure PCR test requirement for fully vaccinated travelers entering England has been cancelled.
