Today, President Nikos Christodoulides of the Republic of Cyprus participated in a special memorial service at the Tomb of Makrasyka to honor the brave officers and soldiers who lost their lives during the Turkish invasion.

During the ceremony, President Christodoulides paid his respects by placing a wreath on the graves of the fallen heroes. Addressing journalists, he stated that this day holds great significance and serves as a time for both honoring the fallen and reflecting on their sacrifices.

The President emphasized the importance of promising to those who sacrificed for Cyprus that everything possible will be done to reverse the current situation and work towards the reunification of the country. Despite facing challenges, he assured the public that their determination remains strong, and they are actively seeking ways to resume meaningful negotiations that were interrupted in 2017.

When asked about the possibility of resuming dialogue given the rhetoric from the Turkish side, President Christodoulides acknowledged recent statements from the Turkish Cypriot leader and expressed interest in hearing further remarks during President Erdogan's visit.

The President highlighted the need to refrain from engaging in public exchanges of accusations and criticism, emphasizing that such actions do not contribute to the ultimate goal of honoring the sacrifices made by the fallen heroes and finding a resolution to the current situation.

He firmly asserted that although rhetoric plays a role in the process, the Cyprus issue will ultimately be resolved through negotiations, and that remains the primary focus of the Republic of Cyprus.
