Rain and storms possible today

Clear weather to prevail in Cyprus by Thursday

Newsroom

Weak low pressure is currently affecting Cyprus, but a shift to weak high pressure is expected to take hold by Thursday. Dust in the atmosphere is anticipated from Friday onwards.

The weather today will be mostly clear, though there will be increased low clouds. During midday and afternoon, developing clouds are likely to bring isolated rain showers and possibly isolated thunderstorms, particularly in the mountains, as well as in southern, eastern, and interior regions. Winds will initially be marine, blowing weak to moderate and locally moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, shifting by afternoon to mainly southwest to northwest at the same intensity. The sea will generally be a little turbulent. Temperatures will reach around 27 degrees Celsius inland, about 25 degrees along the coast, and 16 degrees in the higher mountains.

In the evening, the weather will remain mostly clear, with low clouds increasing locally, especially along the coast. Later in the night, average and high clouds will increase. By dawn, sparse fog may form in parts of the interior and southeast. Winds will initially be southwest to northwest, weak to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, becoming katabatic and weak at 3 Beaufort. The sea will calm down, becoming calm to slightly turbulent. Temperatures will drop to around 15 degrees inland, 16 degrees on the coast, and 8 degrees in the higher mountains.

On Wednesday, there will be occasional locally increased clouds, expected to bring isolated rains and storms, particularly in the mountains and in southern, eastern, and interior areas.

The weather on Thursday and Friday is forecasted to be mostly clear. Temperatures on Wednesday will remain stable, but will gradually rise by Friday, exceeding the average climatic values for this time of year.
