Six people were rescued off the coast of Limassol on Friday after their boat took in water and started sinking.

According to local media, coast guard officials went on alert Friday afternoon after receiving an SOS message around 3:50pm regarding a possible maritime incident.

A rescue crew patrolling nearby waters was immediately redirected to the area, near the pier at the town’s old port, where they reached a sinking boat with six souls in the water holding on for dear life.

Reports said four adults and two children were rescued during the emergency operation which lasted until 4:25pm. All six individuals were said to be in good health while two local lifeguards on duty reportedly also assisted in the rescue with their own boat.

The sinking boat was pulled back to shore.
